Evidence-based trauma processing

EMDR Therapy

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based therapy that helps people heal from trauma and distressing life experiences. It works by helping the brain process stuck memories so they no longer feel overwhelming.

Some experiences don't fully resolve just because you understand them. You can know exactly why something happened, talk about it at length, and still feel your body react the same way every time it comes up. EMDR was built for exactly that gap between knowing and actually being free of it.

What This Looks Like

Sessions use bilateral stimulation, most often guided eye movements, sometimes tapping or alternating sound, while you hold a specific memory in mind. This is not hypnosis and you stay fully aware the entire time. We identify a target memory, notice what surfaces in your body and thoughts as we work, and let your brain do what it is naturally built to do: process and file away experiences that got stuck instead of resolving on their own. Many people feel real relief within a handful of sessions, though experiences that built up over a long period usually take longer to fully work through.

Who This Is For

EMDR tends to work especially well for a specific memory or event that still has a charge to it: an accident, an assault, a sudden loss, a moment that keeps replaying no matter how much time has passed. It is also effective for panic attacks, phobias, and the kind of performance anxiety that feels bigger than the situation calls for. If you have already done talk therapy and can explain your trauma clearly but still feel triggered by it, that gap is usually exactly what EMDR reaches.
